How people with learning disabilities get jobs!

This statement is rather a sweeping generalisation isn't it?  And that's why we have used it... it's a sort of "reverse psychology" approach to draw you into the page!

At Aspirations For Life we believe that every person with a learning disability is unique, and has their own individual talents, dreams and aspirations for the future they want for themselves.  The support needed to find and maintain employment will vary from person to person both in the type of support and the amount of support.

But the key word is support.  If there is a generalisation about how people with learning disabilities get jobs it's that they will all, almost certainly, need some support.

A very good start point, we believe, is for you to read the Family Resource Book which you will find in Handy Brochures & Pamphlets.  It's full of real examples of how people with learning disabilities found their jobs.  We also suggest you read the View from a boss page within the Employers section.

In forthcoming weeks we will put up articles on this page from professionals and, we hope, family members who can give direct experience about "how they did it" so please visit this page in the future to see what's here.
