Learning for work

  1. Work related learning has been part of the curriculum to meet the needs of pupils from 14 -16 for a number of years.  Increasingly this is now addressed at Primary level through the PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education) curriculum in support of the Every Child Matters agenda with the focus being:
  • To broaden pupil’s learning experiences in the wider world.
  • To enable pupils to be active citizens in their communities

  1. Any Scheme of Work created to achieve the above aims will need to take account of and accommodate:
  • Individual differences.
  • Personal preferences and needs.
  • Resources and capabilities
  1. This six-page Scheme of Work describes the 'Learning for Work' objectives and shows diagrammatically how these overlap with the PSHCE curriculum. Written by Ellen Atkinson with support from  Liz Paisley at Lakeside School in Hertfordshire, it also  provides a sequence of lesson plans which teachers can use to meet the 'Learning for Work' objectives which aren't already covered.  These outline lesson plans, with a focus on employment, are not prescriptive and provide a basis for teachers to address the individual needs of their pupils.

Words From Wendy

From the minute you know your child has a learning disability look for people who can share positive experiences and offer peer support.
